      I then erased part of the gaussain blurred area. Remember, we still have 3 layers but only the gaussain blurred black square with the invisible border is active. When I erased the black pixels it erases to the background color which is invisible so the black layer just seems to disappear. Do this until you are satisfied with how your image looks. You may need to have the upper layer which is the layer with the image surrounded by an invisible border active so you can eyeball how the effect is coming along.

      Once you've got the blurred areas erased to your satisfaction you can flatten your layers and save the image. Now that you see the final image do all of the instructions from the last few pages make sense? :-)

      I didn't have to erase any of the gaussain blurred layer, to me it looked fine. But, if you wanted a true looking shadow then you'd have to erase some of the stuff to the top in order to achieve the look we got below.
