After enlarging the canvas I used the marquee tool to outline a square in the image. The outline can be seen below and makes a characteristic moving row of dashes called Marching Ants.  I then inversed my selection so that the whole area I had added to the original image (the enlarged canvas area) is now surrounded by marching ants. See the image below.  I then used Vismans Metal Frame Plugin which is freeware. Notice how the area that was between the marching ants is the only area that was modified by the plugin. You could leave the frame just like this if you wished.  |
